With
decades of experience working in the
conference industry, Roy is regularly
called upon to advise clients on ways to
improve the effectiveness of their
forthcoming events. By helping clients
clarify their communication objectives,
he provides invaluable help in ensuring
that the conference 'works'. Clients
regularly describe his involvement as
'invaluable'.
Conference Consulting
For a recent global conference for a
major corporation, Roy advised the most
senior executives and the conference
team on the most appropriate ways to
convey sensitive and unpalatable
messages for the staff, whilst ensuring
widespread 'buy-in' to fundamental
changes that were to be implemented
across a particular division.
Presentation Skills Coaching
A conference production company that had
worked with a particular client for many
years recognised that the speakers for a
forthcoming conference were not as
skilled as they needed to be. Roy was
drafted in to give a presentation on how
to give a presentation to the entire
marketing team, to help them
re-structure their presentations in
order to engage with their audience, and
convey 'dry' information in a more
lively and interesting way. Each of the
speakers then spent an hour 'one-on-one'
going through their presentations and
making specific improvements. It was
reported that their performances on the
day were 'radically improved' as a
result of Roy's coaching.
On another occasion he was given the 2pm graveyard shift to teach 170 senior doctors how to give a presentation. This is what Roy's production company client wrote afterwards;
“I have known Roy for 25 years. We have worked together on many occasions in TV, radio and on the conference and meetings circuit — and he has always been a joy and, of course, a professional. An example is on one occasion we brought Roy in to facilitate a three-day conference (in Barcelona) for a major international pharma company. A large part of the conference was an extended and detailed discussion about the merits of a complex drug for an audience of 170 senior doctors from all around the world, Roy handled it superbly. He THEN had to give them a presentation on how to give a presentation at 2pm, the notorious graveyard shift, and with an audience where only 5% used English as their first language. The fact that the audience were enthralled and ranked the session so highly is a testament to Roy’s skill. Would I recommend Roy? Absolutely yes. He does what it says on the tin — and he does it very, very well indeed.” Richard Cobourne, Producer and Director at On Screen Productions Ltd
Business Coaching
It can be lonely at the top of an
organisation, Roy is often consulted as
a well-informed outsider to be a
'sounding board'. Although not someone
who markets 'coaching' as one of his
core services, Roy has built up such a
level of trust with senior executives
around the world, they often call or
email 'to pick his brains'.
Video Interviewer
On numerous occasions Roy has interviewed a large number of executives and client customers in the lead up to an event. He owns HD mini-dv high-end Sony camcorders, microphones and lighting kit. In many cases he has also edited the material too. The resulting videos are then used throughout the conference agenda: sometimes as 'spring-boards' for discussion or as punctuation throughout the event.
